For over 20 years, Deirdre Brodie has called the 6th Ward home—as both a renter and homeowner—and she can’t imagine living anywhere else. A longtime community advocate and experienced public servant, Deirdre is running for Common Council to represent her neighbors authentically, with professionalism and a commitment to getting results.

Deirdre’s career has been grounded in human services, starting as an AmeriCorps volunteer and later coordinating programs at Albany County to support vulnerable residents. She has served on the board of Vanderheyden for more than a decade and now works to ensure foster youth aging out of care don’t end up back on the streets. Her deep understanding of housing, mental health, and addiction services is backed by a track record of partnership and compassion.

As a leader in the Washington Park Neighborhood Association, Deirdre has built relationships with city departments, law enforcement, and fellow neighborhood groups. She recently brought together APD leadership and community organizations for the first open dialogue in years—demonstrating her ability to convene, collaborate, and drive solutions from day one.

Her campaign priorities reflect what she’s heard directly from residents: safer, cleaner streets; a revitalized Lark Street; and a walkable, thriving neighborhood that works for everyone. In January, she documented 45 vacant storefronts across the Ward—and she’s already working with local property owners to activate empty spaces and bring businesses back.

Deirdre is committed to making sure public investment, including the Governor’s $400M economic development pledge, delivers lasting improvements for this neighborhood—from parks and playgrounds to affordable housing and accessible infrastructure.

She believes the job of a Council Member is to be the trusted right hand of the community—accountable only to the people of the 6th Ward.
